Who We Are

Bay Area Equestrian Center (BAEC), established in 1995, sits on 14 acres in Pearland, Texas. The facility is family owned and operated by Lynn & Paul Almond. BAEC is a full-board facility, riding academy and national caliber Arabian show resource conveniently located in the Houston-Clear Lake area.

It is our goal to provide a fun, family-oriented environment, where clients can learn about horses and riding. Also if they choose clients can evolve from taking basic lessons to horse ownership and competing up through the national level in the Arabian show circuit. Our training goals are to promote a hands-on, confidence building process between the horse, trainer, and rider through hard work and goal setting.

Lynn Almond - Owner

Lynn has been a part of the horse community in and around Houston her whole life. She was raised in nearby Friendswood, TX and began her career working for Arabian horse trainer Kent Caldwell. She graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Animal Science in 1989, then returned to Friendswood and began training horses full-time. In 1990 she began Friendswood Riding School, which in 1995 developed into Bay Area Equestrian Center. Throughout her career, Lynn's students have won multiple national championships in Western, Hunter, and Sidesaddle. Lynn has a passion for introducing people to the world of horses and promoting the Arabian breed through providing a fun, family-oriented facility in the heart of the Bay Area. When she isn't at the barn, Lynn spends her free time with her family, chasing her two small sons Jake and Justin.

Laurie Long - Trainer

Laurie was born and raised in Conroe, TX. She got her first Arabian horse at age 9 and has been hooked ever since. She began training professionally in 1980 at Southwind Farms in Conroe. Since that time she has trained numerous National Champions in Western, Hunter, Show Hack, Halter Showmanship, and Equitation. Her students have earned over 100 National and Reserve Championships during their youth careers and earned over $250,000 in scholarships. After training for Wolf Springs Ranch in Colorado, and Laurie Long Performance Horses in Arizona, she brought her expertise back to Texas once again when she joined BAEC in November 2010. Laurie was recognized @ the 2010 APHA Awards as Instructor of the Year, and then the highlight of her year came when she welcomed her first grandchild, Isabella Leigh Sobral.
